Richard was a Linguistics student at the University of Edinburgh, interested in evolutionary linguistics, particularly involving Bayesian phylogenetics, typology, and computer simulations. Now he’s graduated, and is moving on to the University of Saarland next year to study for a Masters in computational linguistics. His thesis focused on the evolution and significance of word segmentation. He is also interested in ecology, complex systems, data management, web development, open documentation, and scientific workflows.
He is also a member of the University of Edinburgh Linguistics and English Language Society, and has done a considerable amount of work on the LangSoc blog. He spends far too much of his time on social sites such as Twitter, and far more of his time doing projects around the web, all of which are listed here.
